ASEAN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TOURISM (AST)
About the AST
The ASEAN Scholarship for Tourism (AST) scheme is the first initiative taken by ATRA to assist scholars desiring to pursue post graduate studies and research on ASEAN tourism relevant to the principles and objectives of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025. This is part of ATRA’s objective to promote ASEAN integration under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), with specific focus on the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) priorities.
The Blueprint identifies two strategic directions, namely:
i. To enhance competitiveness of ASEAN
as a single tourism destination.
ii. To achieve a more sustainable and
inclusive pattern of ASEAN tourism.
AST details
Two categories of scholarships are offered:

ASEAN Scholarship for Tourism, which is open to nationals of all ASEAN member countries
-
Global ASEAN Scholarship for Tourism, which is open to nationals of all ASEAN member countries, all Dialogue Partners of ASEAN and others.
For both of the categories of the scholarships being offered, the programs can be conducted in the host institutions located in any of the ASEAN member countries.
The offer of the scholarships shall be made by the member institutions of ATRA and awarded by its Board of Directors.
Selection Process
Eligibility :
For Doctor of Philosophy;

Master’s Degree (Coursework/ Mixed-mode) with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or equivalent by Research mode
-
At least 1 article published in peer-reviewed journals
For Master’s Degree;
-
Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA ≥ 3.50 or equivalent from any recognized local or foreign universities.
Selection Criteria :
a) Written application and interview
-
Academic excellence at the tertiary level (40%)
-
Leadership in the community (30%)
-
Adaptability and Resilience (15%)
-
Ability to contribute to ATRA goals (15%)
b) Research proposal:
-
The research proposal should be related and relevant to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2016 -2025 (ATSP) priority areas.
